Jeep compass shuts off while driving

2007 Jeep Patriot. The Starter was replaced April of this year - It just died one day. 10 days ago I'm driving down the road and it engages. I pull over and turn off the car. It continues to turn the engine over even after the key is complete removed. Burns up and stops after about 1 minute. Mechanic says it was a defective starter and replaced.
