Most likely it’s the punchline from some old joke that someone in the marketing department of Ferrara Pan heard that thought it would work as a candy name as well.
Take a medium-sized saucepan and add 2 cups of granulated sugar, 3/4 cup of corn syrup and 3/4 cup of water in it. On medium heat, stir the mixture until all sugar crystals have dissolved. After that let it boil for few minutes without stirring until candy thermometer reads between "300°F -310°F" (hard crack stage).
